Dr. Randy Katz

Dr. Randy Katz is founder and director of The Clinic, a multi-disciplinary treatment centre located in the heart of Toronto. He was awarded his Ph.D. from the University of London, Institute of Psychiatry, London, England in 1982, following an Honours B.A. degree at the University of Western Ontario, Canada, 1978.

Dr. Katz studied under the supervision of Professor H. J. Eysenck and Dr. Irene Martin and completed his doctoral research on individual differences in stress and anxiety. Following this, he pursued post-doctoral training with Professor Peter McGuffin in the Department of Psychiatry at the Institute of Psychiatry, London, England. McGuffin and Katz are recognized as pioneers in the study of social and genetic factors in depressive illness.

Dr. Katz returned from England in 1989 to take a position in the Department of Psychology at the Toronto General Hospital, Toronto, Canada and Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry, University of Toronto. Here, Dr. Katz developed the Treatment Evaluation Program for Stress, Anxiety, and Depression and conducted extensive epidemiological research investigating the incidence and prevalence of psychological illness in the community.

In 1998, Dr. Katz left the Toronto Hospital to develop a private psychotherapy clinic, which has since grown into The Clinic on Dupont. Dr. Katz has maintained his academic status of Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto and, together with his colleagues, has published over 30 refereed articles and book chapters. He continues to supervise students in their research and clinical work, collaborate on research projects, and teach techniques of assessment and therapy at the University of Toronto.
