Psychoeducational Assessment

A psychoeducational assessment is a comprehensive evaluation that examines how a person learns, thinks, and processes information. It is designed to understand a student’s cognitive abilities, academic achievement, and emotional or behavioural functioning in order to identify strengths, challenges, and any underlying learning difficulties.

These assessments are commonly used to diagnose:

  • Learning disabilities
  • Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
  • Autism spectrum disorder (ASD)
  • Giftedness
  • Intellectual or developmental delays
  • Emotional or behavioural issues affecting academic performance

The goal is to gain a full understanding of a person’s learning profile and provide individualized recommendations for school, home, or work settings.

Who Should Consider a Psychoeducational Assessment?

A psychoeducational assessment may be beneficial if a child, teen, or adult is:

  • Struggling academically despite strong effort
  • Falling behind in reading, writing, or math
  • Having difficulty concentrating or staying organized
  • Performing inconsistently at school or work
  • Expressing frustration, anxiety, or avoidance related to learning
  • Being considered for gifted programming or accommodations
