Alexis Winfield is a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. Alexis earned her Master’s of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Western University after completing her Bachelor’s of Science (Honours) degree in Psychology at Queen’s University. Alexis is extremely passionate about working with children, adolescents, parents, and families to help them overcome challenges and accomplish their own personal successes.

Alexis takes a person-centred approach to psychotherapy, drawing from
various evidence-based therapies in collaboration with her clients. Alexis focuses on building a strong therapeutic relationship and has demonstrated a keen ability to connect with clients regardless of their age. For the past ten years, Alexis has worked with children and adults of all abilities allowing her to develop a strong understanding of their strengths and needs. In her practice, Alexis draws from cognitive-behavioural therapy, emotion-focused therapy, systemic approaches, and attachment orientations depending on the unique strengths and needs of her clients.

Alexis has helped clients tackle presenting concerns related to anxiety,
depression, emotion regulation, suicidality, grief, attachment disruptions, and complex trauma. Alexis has also worked extensively with individuals diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and oppositional defiant disorder (ODD). Alexis strongly avoids taking the ‘expert’ role with clients as she works under the assumption that they are the experts in their own experiences. Alexis recognizes the importance and benefits of appropriately involving family in the therapeutic process when working with youth and aims to do so when possible. Alexis’ ultimate goals are to create safety, connection, and trust with every session. Alexis hopes to help youth and families on their journeys of healing and exploration.
